Beautiful and ugly ...

When you start spending a lot of time with photography, one of the first things you realize is that there are a lot of things in the world that are pretty ugly ... but that also tend to make interesting photographs.

High-voltage power lines are near the top of that list for me: I think they're a blight on the landscape, but they're always fun to photograph. I shot this picture a couple of years ago, on a dirt road a few miles northeast of Toston, heading up into the Big Belt Mountains.

  1. What's your take on the wind farms? Got any pics?

I think they're kind of gorgeous myself, but a lot of people think they're a blight on the landscape.

I like the power line masts too. It's a lovely photo.

  2. I'm with you on the wind farms ... I think they're pretty gorgeous. (My opinion of them might change, though, if they start building hundreds or them all over the state!)

I have some windmill photos I shot up in Alberta, but I'm not sure if I have any Montana shots -- that might be a good excuse to drive up to Judith Gap one of these days.

And thanks! I'm glad you like the photo.
