Walk tall ...

This morning's Montana quote is by the noted British actor John Hurt. It's reportedly from an interview published in the Evening Standard on December 14, 1979:
It's the kind of country where men are expected to walk tall. I just said I was English and slunk around as I usually do.

  1. In my opinion, the absolute best line about Montana is by none other than John Steinbeck, from his 1962 book, "Travels with Charley:"

"Montana seems to me to be what a small boy would think Texas is like hearing from Texans."

You have to be a Montana native living in Texas (where nine out ten people surveyed think "The Beverly Hillbillies" was a drama) to appreciate this.

Texas: Never have SO MANY been SO PROUD of SO LITTLE.

Montana truly IS the Essence of Texaslessness.

  2. Agreed, without a doubt! That was the very first quote I posted in this blog, back in my May 1st entry.

And I have to agree with you about Texas, too ... at least in some ways, it's my least-favorite state. I like the part of the state west of the Pecos, but I try to pass through the rest of it as quickly as possible. Hope you're able to escape someday!
