Speeding to Livingston ...

Here's another of my favorite Montana railroad posters. This one was painted about 1930 or so by a man named Gustav Krollman, who worked as an artist for the Northern Pacific for several years. Krollman did a whole series of posters for the NP in a similar style, depicting attractions along the NP line. (And a few that weren't -- his subject matter extended all the way to Alaska.)

It's a gorgeous and evocative image, without a doubt. (Those are the Absarokas in the background.) I have to say, though ... the train looks more like one that should be headed to Hogwarts, rather than Livingston.

  2. Yeah, this is all great stuff ... though of course I like the MIlwaukee artwork the best. :)

This particular one was reprinted back in the 80s or 90s, and you should be able to find it without too much trouble ...

  3. Mark,

I have not been able to find this reproduction anywhere. Any thoughts?

  4. It's been a long time since I've seen reproductions of the old Northern Pacific prints for sale locally, but there are still a couple of places offering current reprints of this poster on eBay. I imagine they're "giclée" prints (produced on demand with a high-quality computer printer) ... I couldn't vouch for their quality, but they should be pretty good, and they're fairly reasonably priced.
